I REFER to the story Boycott town call to disabled drivers', (Echo, May 24). Of course disabled drivers should pay to park your cars. Why shouldn't you - we all have to pay to park.
I totally agree with T Ashton's letter Disabled drivers deserve our respect' (Echo, May 28) that the blue badge scheme is severely abused by what seems to be a very large majority.
They park on any available double yellow lines, which I am sure is against the law (according to the Highway Code book I read).
Surely if it's a fine for the able-bodied and it's a fine for delivery lorries, it's a fine for all.
Sorry, but it's a fact of life that we have to pay to park.
Boycotting the town and driving to Dorchester to shop will surely cost more in fuel than just putting your coins in the parking meter.
Maybe the council could bring in a lower rate hourly charge for bona fide blue badge holders or even make the east street car park a car park for disabled drivers only.
