OUT of sync traffic lights at a busy Weymouth junction have been described as a 'nightmare' as long queues build up.
The signals at the Kings crossroads at the bottom of King Street are faulty - with lights on some of the junction arms only staying green for just a few seconds.
It has meant long tailbacks are stretching back from the junction, particularly up King Street onto the seafront and also on Radipole Park Drive towards the Jubilee Retail Park where drivers are being blocked trying to get in and out.
Problems with the lights have been experienced since the junction was resurfaced at the end of last month - more than two weeks ago.
Local resident Lucy Banks said: "It's been a nightmare, ever since they resurfaced the area and the road was closed on nights for about a week the traffic lights have been out of sync.
"I am a domiciliary carer and it's making me and my colleagues late for a client we visit.
"Last week the lights were letting two cars through at a time, it's total chaos. Something needs to be done; people are jumping red lights as they don't want to be stuck there anymore and who can blame them?"
Dorset Council says it's aware of the problem and plans to fix it tonight.
A spokesman said: “We’re aware that the signals (at the junction) are changing colour faster than usual and we apologise for any delays this is causing motorists. Our contractors are due back on site this evening, 17 October at 7pm, to finish off some planned works overnight which are taking longer than anticipated. We’re aiming for the traffic lights to be back their usual pattern and speed by Tuesday 18 October.”
