ANTIQUES have been put under the scrutiny of a TV expert during a special event.
Guests at Athelhampton House and gardens had their prized possessions valued by Paul Atterbury from the BBC Antiques Roadshow programme last night.
Anthony du Boulay from Christie's and Garry Batt and staff from Duke's auction house in Dorchester also attended the evening. The event was organised by Dorchester Casterbridge Rotary Club to raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, Dorset Kidney Fund and the Rotary Foundation.
Rotarian Tim Stiles said: "The three distinguished authorities examined, commented on and valued the precious antique possessions brought along by the visitors. The house and grounds were open and there was a light-hearted quiz to complete identifying some of the treasures in the house."
After a meal, Mr Atterbury shared some of his knowledge of antiques with guests. The night ended with an auction of promises - including a photography lesson with wildlife photographer Colin Varndell, a flight over Dorset and tea for two at the House of Commons with West Dorset MP Oliver Letwin.
