Reports of teens armed with a knife and a hammer in Weymouth sparked a major police response.
The police helicopter was involved in the search operation last night and was seen circling Wyke Regis and the Ferrybridge area for about half an hour.
A 14-year-old boy was later arrested - and then 'de-arrested', meaning that he was released as police were satisfied there were no grounds for keeping him under arrest.
Police said no threats were made and nobody was injured.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 9.22pm on Wednesday 5 October of a group of teenagers in possession of a knife and hammer in Douglas Road in Weymouth.
"Officers attended and carried out searches of the area, assisted by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter, to locate the group.
"A 14-year-old boy from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place. He was subsequently de-arrested and is continuing to assist with the investigation."
The spokesman added: "There were no threats made to the public and nobody was injured. A knife was seized. Enquiries are continuing into the incident."
