AN indoor bowling rink plan from the Dorset Golf and Country Club at Hyde, south of Bere Regis, is now going before Purbeck councillors.
The recommendation is for it to be refused - because of a objection from an official conservation watchdog.
The club also wants to build three new staff bedsits on land to the north of Hyde Lane.
Six existing driving bays would be extended and converted into changing, toilet and gym facilities with the provision of the proposed new staff units.
The rink would be in a 47 metres by 17 metres cedar-clad building.
The county council says that there should be more information over whether the new rink would be for existing members and guests staying at the country club and whether it would be also used by other local clubs and whether it would be a year-round attraction.
If visitor numbers increased a highways contribution would be required.
An objection has come from conservation watchdog Natural England because of the proximity of a site of special scientific interest.
Planner Rob Jefferies is telling councillors: "While the principle of such development in the open countryside would normally be questioned, it is noted that the golf and country club is an established facility, that is a significant employer and attraction within the area."
He says the applicants argue the proposals are required because of a severe drop in hotel and lodge occupancy rates during the winter months.
Purbeck councillors will debate the application tomorrow.
