Puddletown
- HOW many pre-children can you get in the back of a police car?
Yes - I know it sounds like one of those old 1970s jokes about elephants in a mini, but when I went in to see what the children from Puddletown Pre-school have been doing as part of Rights and Responsibilities Arts Week, an amazing number of children were attempting to squeeze themselves into the back of a police vehicle parked in the playground.
A visit from PCSO Vickie Hedges and PC Charlie Dale who are part of Dorchester East Rural Safer Neighbourhood team, concluded the Arts week for the pre-school on Friday morning.
The children had all had a great deal of fun trying on police hats and clothes, and hearing all about what it is like to be a policeman.
The visit was a great opportunity for the children to find out what the police do in the community.
- TWO pre-carnival events have been arranged.
The first of these is the Puddletown Carnival Pageant on Saturday, June 14, and the second is a fashion show on Wednesday, June 18 at 7.30pm.
Both events are in the village hall.
I will shortly have full details of these events to give you.

- THERE is to be a performance of The Land by Vita Sackville West with Tim Laycock and Sonia Ritter in Briantspuddle village hall on Thursday, June 12 at 7.30pm.
Tim Laycock's performances have been very popular in the past, and this should be yet another excellent evening's entertainment.
If you would like tickets, these are priced £7, and are available from Nancy on 01929 472207.
- THE book swap club meets in the village hall on Saturday June 14 from 10am until 11am.
This is a great opportunity to bring along a book you have enjoyed and swap it for another one or two.
There is an excellent selection of books available including current popular titles like Atonement, The Chesil, The Kite Runner, and autobiographies like Ellen McCarthy's diary of her round-the-world voyage.
New members are always welcome, so do drop in for a coffee and a chat.
