- TWO artists in Wyke are exhibiting their work during Dorset Art Weeks which began on Sunday May 24 and runs until Sunday June 8 inclusive.
Andrew Seamark is new to DAW. His paintings of local scenes in different media will be on show at his home studio at 38, South Road, Wyke Regis every day except Wednesdays during DAW. Please follow the signs to the rear of the property. Originals and prints of his work are available and come ready to hang.
Also nearby in South Road is Roger Smith's home gallery at Martleaves House, 41 South Road, Wyke Regis, the launch of which took place on Thursday, May 22.
The gallery will be open from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm every day during DAW except Tuesdays.
The present collection of work on show includes new work of abstracts based on exotic minerals.
Roger specialises in fine art photography of flowers, botanicals and Jurassic Coast fossils and minerals.
He also produces abstracts taken with macro (close up) techniques that reveal hidden structures, patterns, and textures often missed by the naked eye.
A selection of his optical art abstract paintings will be on show too.
Giclée prints will be available on stretched canvas or framed on art papers.
Roger cordially invites you to come and explore new dimensions through his macro photography.
It's a unique opportunity to broaden your visual perspective and discover a whole new world of micro detail.
Enlarging the images of the scarcely visible subjects he catches on camera, Roger creates stunning images that hover on the cusp between reality and abstraction.
- THE next Wyke Regis PACT Meeting will take place on Wednesday May 28 upstairs in the Wyke Working Mens Club, starting at 7pm.
All residents are welcome and are encouraged to come along to air their views and opinions on Wyke, and to raise awareness of any problems they are currently experiencing so the Wyke PACT Panel can take note of and address these.
Updates and progress on issues raised at the last meeting will also be reported.
PC Mark Edgar or a member from the Local Police Community Support Team will be present at the meeting along with the PACT Chairman Jak Curtis-Rendall.
- RICHARD Price from Wyke Regis Protection Society reports the plant sale went ahead on Saturday May 17 despite adverse weather conditions.
He would like to thank all the helpers who braved the damp conditions and the customers who came along for a bargain and were very generous.
A grand total of £97.45 was raised which is very commendable.
It is hoped to hold an even bigger and better plant sale next year, hopefully in better conditions!
A special thank you goes to Jim McDowell who brought trailer loads of plants and had obviously spent many hours preparing and tending a grand selection of plants to sell on the day.
- WYKE residents may have wondered why Wyke Gardens have not been up to their usual high standard recently.
The willing band of helpers who tend these are struggling to find fresh volunteers to lend a hand.
Just giving an hour or so a week to this project would be a great help to the community of Wyke and greatly appreciated.
Assistance and guidance will be available.
This is the busy time of year for those already involved so please give it some thought.
If you can join the team, please telephone 01305 838297 to contact Tara Gooding who is setting up the Friends of Wyke Gardens. Special thanks also to Adam and his community helpers who have been coming along on Wednesday afternoons to assist.
