WALKERS in Dorset are being invited to learn more about the Jurassic coast with a series of guided tours.
Six key visitor centres along the Dorset coast are teaming up to run eight themed walks along the World Heritage coastline.
The Rock around the Coast' event will begin at Charmouth Heritage Centre on Monday May 26 and run throughout the half term week - ending at Studland beach on Monday June 2.
Other centres involved include Chesil Beach Centre, Lulworth Cove Heritage Centre, Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve, Kimmeridge Bay and Durlston Country Park in Swanage.
Now in its fourth year, this non-profit event organised by Dorset Coastlink, has been extended to include a Portland leg to the walks.
People are invited to take part in one walk or all eight for a challenge.
It is a chance for walkers to explore the diverse wildlife, history, geology and dramatic landscapes of the spectacular coastline with the help of expert guides.
Each walk offers special features and optional extras such as boat and kayak tours, pub lunches, rockpooling and fossil hunting.
En route walkers will also stop and explore popular sites such as Abbotsbury Swannery, Tyneham village, the Fleet lagoon and ancient Iron Age monuments.
Lulworth Ranger and co-organiser of this year's event, Sarah Day, said: "Once again this year, we are also working with Jurassic Kayak Tours to offer a special kayak trip from Lulworth to Kimmeridge, alongside the walk, giving people the chance to experience the coast from a different perspective."
Transport to the start of each walk and from the finish point is available but booking is essential due to limited seats.
To find out more or book a place call the Studland Study centre on 01929 450461 or visit the centres taking part.
