Bere Regis

  • THE scout section has been undertaking the Remember Them project for the last 18 months, researching the names on the village war memorial.

The project team gave a presentation on their findings at the Drax Hall in April.

It was well attended, and included several descendants of those commemorated on the war memorial.

Mike Parkes, county commissioner for Dorset scouts, presented the scouts with their Heritage badge.

The scouts had split into small teams to do their research for the project, and prepared their own ten-minute talk with text and slides for the evening with the absolute minimum of adult help, The presentation was a great success, and attracted many messages of thanks and congratulations.

The scouts are greatly indebted to the many local organisations and individuals who gave financial and other support for the project members to travel to Ypres, Belgium to take part in a huge Remembrance Day parade in November 2007.
