After a pleasant walk to Portland Bill on Sunday afternoon, I thought I would catch the open topped bus back to my home in Fortuneswell.
I boarded the bus and asked for my ticket - "£2.20 please" the driver said. I thought he had misheard me and charged for a return ticket. No - he confirmed that was the price.
Needless to say I disembarked with some haste and walked home.
To put this in context it costs 90p to travel from Fortuneswell to Southwell and £2.30 return to go to Weymouth.
When I used this service last summer, I seem to recall the fare being around £1.30.
How can First justify such an extortionate fare?
We should be encouraging tourists to use public transport, not ripping them off. I shall be writing to First to ask for a explanation of their fare structure.
