GARLAND DAY Tuesday, May 13 almost came and went in our house, unnoticed.
However, a knock at the door in the evening saw Clare James and three weary teenagers Max, Adam and Shannon carrying a beautiful garland.
It is not the sort that you put around your neck in tropical places but traditional and large built on a frame the size of a chair carried by two people.
Made of garden flowers, slightly jaded from the heat of the day it was nevertheless lovely to see. There were two of them but the other had finished its tour of the village as the little children had been on their last legs.
So well done Lucy Bailey and the children, I'm sorry we didn't see that one here at west End of the village.
The money raised will this year go to the Abbotsbury recreation ground fund. Thank you Claire and Lucy for all your hard work and children for giving us such pleasure.
- STILL on Flowers, there will be a flower arranging competition for anyone living in the Chesil Magazine area at Abbotsbury Gardens over the weekend of June 7th and 8th, courtesy of Abbotsbury Tourism.
New this year will be a novice class for anyone who hasn't entered in previous years.
The classes will be 24+ inches - Simple pleasures a modern design, 18+ Potty, 9+ Mini Market, for novices a table arrangement and for children a Model of a TV character using natural produce.
Contact Peggy Ford 01305 871269 before May 31 to enter. No imitation flowers or foliage is to be used.
