A MUSIC festival organiser has turned to his mum for help in getting his pet project off the ground.

The organiser of Weymouth's forthcoming Boring By The Sea Festival, Richard Walsh, said he was surprised by the generosity his mum has shown him.

In a move that could be deemed risky for some parents, Suzy Walsh has given Richard, 19, access to her credit card - on the understanding it's a loan to get his concert going.

Care worker Mrs Walsh, 48, said: "I've been supporting Richard emotionally and been there to discuss things with him while he's been organising the festival.

"I also said that if there's anything he wants for it he can use my credit card to pay for it but that he can pay me back when he has a chance. I'm not quite in a position to finance the whole thing."

She added: "I thought that if I can support him in any way with getting it off the ground then I will.

"I've been giving him support and advice and said I'd also help with catering and things like that too if I can."

Store worker Richard, who has been organising the festival with friends, said: "It may not seem a big deal but we've had no sponsorship or endorsement behind us yet we're putting on this huge event.

"It's been funded solely from working 'average Joe' jobs and with help from my unexpectedly willing mother.

"She's been really supportive and I wouldn't have been able to do any of this without her help."

He added: "Things have been pretty stressful.

"There have been a few line-up changes and we've got some pretty large bands playing.

"It's going to be a huge event for Weymouth since we'll be taking care of 37 bands coming from all over the world including France and New Zealand."

The event is set to take place on Sunday, June 29, with performances at Banus, the Lazy Lizard, The Queens Hotel and Tuatara.
