A 100-YEAR-OLD had the treat of her life at a surprise birthday party where she was serenaded by a 28-piece male choir.

Hundreds of friends and family packed out the Herrison Hall in Charlton Down to celebrate the birthday of Eugenie West.

Even 11 members of her close family flew in from New Zealand, Canada and Australia to join in with the celebrations.

Mrs West's daughter Hazel Newboult, of Poplar Drive, Charlton Down, has spent months organising the surprise party and picnic and said that her mother was thrilled.

She added: "My mother is such a remarkable woman and really loved by everybody. I wanted to organise something to give her a treat."

Mrs West stayed at the Rembrandt Hotel in Weymouth and was expecting to pay a visit to the village hall to see a piano that she donated to the hall last year.

When she turned up she was surprised by friends, family and members of the Charlton Down Womens' Institute.

The 28 members of Casterbridge Male Voice Choir sang for the guests and everybody joined in to sing Happy Birthday to Mrs West.

Now living in Seaton - Mrs West still sees her four children, 25 grand children and 10 great grandchildren regularly.
