• DURING Dorset Art Weeks, from Saturday, 24 May to Sunday, 8 June between 11am and 5pm Preston and Sutton Poyntz artists Sue Fridd, Di Gilliver, Caroline Nairn and Christine Rashleigh-Berry, under their group name of 4 Points of View, will be exhibiting some of their work in the Strangways Hall, Abbotsbury.

The exhibition will include paintings, prints, ceramics, textiles, felt jewellery and greetings cards. Many of the works take their inspiration from the Dorset countryside and coastline and illustrate the different styles of the four artists. If you have seen their work before, you will know the exhibition will be well worth a visit, and if you haven't then you are in for a treat.

  • JULIE tells me that a fantastic line-up of entertainment has been organised for the Sutton Poyntz Victorian Street Fayre on Sunday, 29 June. One of the highlights will be musician Ed Hintze - who shot to fame as Elton John in the BBC TV show "The One and Only" - who will be playing live at the Fayre at 3pm. Other entertainers include the Mill Street Jazz Band, the Weymouth Concert Brass Band, the Preston Pantomime Group, the Thomas Hardye School Big Band and Steel band, the Accordion Ladies, Historical Dance and the Appalachian Dancers with the Shoestring Band.

Around our picturesque village duck-pond you will find stalls selling antiques, gifts, plants, books and accessories. An art exhibition, beadwork, quilting and patchwork and other country crafts will be on display in the Water Works Museum. There will be plenty of good food including a farmers' market, cream teas and the barbeque. Children are invited to join the opening parade dressed in Victorian costume and then enjoy sports, pony rides, a giant inflatable slide, face-painting, model boats, and a fire engine. All this entertainment for just £2.50 admission per adult, with children under 14 free and free parking as well.

In the afternoon Goadsby Estate Agents, the event's main sponsor, are kindly organising a grand charity auction during which they hope to raise over £1,000. The village stalls need your help with donations; Perfect Presents, anything you would like to give or receive as a present, Pat Haine 832995; Accessories bags, hats, scarves, jewellery etc, Ruth Davies 833798; Gardening, tools, pots, fresh fruit, vegetables, and if you are potting up, why not do another for the stall, Paul Nicholson 835681; Books, any sort in good condition except text books, Caroline Crisp 832529; Antiques and Bygones, if it's old it can be sold, Vera Flower 833031.
