DORSET Police Authority is looking for volunteers to monitor custody units at police stations in the county.
Custody visitors will play a key part in ensuring the welfare of people being detained by Dorset Police.
The authority is holding a series of recruitment events for people to find out more about the role and what it involves.
Chairman of Dorset's custody visiting panel Kathie Emery said: "We are looking for applications from all sections of the community and applications from young people and minority groups are particularly welcome.
"The volunteers we are seeking need to live in Dorset, be of good character and be over 18. Full training to carry out the custody visiting role will be provided."
Applications need to be in by the end of May. For an application pack or more information contact the custody visiting scheme administrator on 01305 223966, email yvonne.fenwick@dorset.pnn.police.uk or visit www.dpa.police.uk
