I would like to thank Maurice West (Garden already targeted', Echo, May 14) for highlighting the excellent work that has taken place in the Chapelhay Gardens and for promoting it as a place to visit with its fantastic view and pleasant surroundings.
I also need to address a couple of inaccuracies in his letter. It was in fact the management and staff from The Old Rooms Pub, as detailed in the Echo article of Tuesday April 28, who put in the money and the labour.
I also need to highlight that this was secured by Julie Hursthouse, from Weymouth and Portland Borough Council. On the day Carl Dallison and his council team worked with them to clear debris, cut grass and secure the benches and flower tubs - and that it was the council who provided the bin.
The Chapelhay Community Partnership have, over the last nine months, endeavoured to engage as many people as possible in the renovation of these gardens.
We have worked closely with the council and are in discussions with a local group who may be able to contribute to the upkeep of a part of the gardens.
We, like Maurice, are delighted at the progress that has been made but there is still plenty to do. Anyone who is interested in getting involved please do - local gardeners, builders, artists or just generally keen and willing pairs of hands are all welcome to contribute to further improvements.
Do contact me on 01305 770608 or come to the next PACT meeting Wednesday, June 11 at the Fire Station, where Chapelhay Gardens are very much on the agenda.
Sue Prescott, Chapelhay Community Partnership.
