I refer to the letter frpm Tony Eames, voicing his disgust at the £12,000 bill for County Councillor refreshments (I'm sick of being used and abused', Echo, May 12.

He states that in 'his next life' he intends to be an MP or county councillor instead of a 'simple working man'.

Mr Eames might take heart in the knowledge that he does not need to wait until his 'next life' - he can become either of these any time he chooses.

He can certainly become a candidate for the borough or county council very easily.

He could take the time and effort to put himself up for election and knock on all the doors in his proposed ward to make himself known.

He could attend numerous local interest and social groups to ensure that he has a finger on the pulse and then, once elected, he can join all the other simple working men and women who already give their time and energy to us constituents for modest allowances and the odd free cup of tea or coffee.

There is no need for him to be 'used and abused' any longer. He will be able to 'make decisions' on his own behalf, and that of his constituents, of course. In a democracy, somebody has to do it Mr Eames, what are you waiting for?
