• TWO of Chickerell's pre-school managers, Lynn Wise from Noah's Ark pre-school and out of school club and Sue Miller from Ducklings pre school, have gained their NVQ Level 4 certificates in child care through Wessex Training.

This took a lot of hard work so congratulations to them both.

Noah's Ark pre school is held in the Youth and Community Centre in Rashley Road and is open daily offering a wide range of sessions to suit your child's needs.

They open from 8.45am to 2.45pm with lunch clubs. If you are interested in a place for your child then act quickly to avoid disappointment as places are filling up already for September.

Ducklings pre school is held in the Methodist church hall, Chickerell and is open every week day with lunch club available on selected days.

  • ON Tuesday evening at Chickerell Town Council's Annual General Meeting Councillor Norman Carter was elected as Mayor of Chickerell for the coming year. He will be escorted by the Mayoress, his wife Janet.

He takes over from Councillor John Dean and his wife Gillian who have done a sterling job throughout their mayoral year.

John thanked members and officers for their support and said that he had thoroughly enjoyed his term of office and considered it an honour to have represented Chickerell as Mayor.

He wished Norman and Janet well in their new roles as Mayor and Mayoress of Chickerell.

  • THE Victory Hall committee will be holding their Annual General Meeting at the Victory Hall on Thursday, June 19.

The meeting will start at 6 pm prompt. They would welcome anyone who wishes to come along and see what they have achieved at the hall and to learn about their plans and ambitions for the future.

At the meeting they will also have to re-elect their officers and committee members so if you are interested in joining the committee you could either make your interest known at the meeting or give Marion Hardcastle a ring on 01305 761633.

  • THE West Dorset District Council's draft Housing Strategy for 2008-12 together with a consultation questionnaire is available to view on the Council's website.

The draft strategy identifies the main objectives of the council's housing team over the next four years and details the actions proposed to achieve those objectives.
