A ROYAL Navy recruit from Dorchester is celebrating after being rewarded for his academic prowess.
Alex Rendell, 22, recently completed the second phase of his training at the Maritime Warfare School at HMS Collingwood in Fareham, Hampshire.
And the budding warfare specialist marked his passing out by scooping the award for top academic student in his class. Former Thomas Hardye School pupil Alex has now joined the destroyer HMS Exeter as he continues on his fast-track route towards early promotion.
He and his colleagues are setting sail for a tour around the UK - and visits to Russia, Norway and Iceland.
Keen sportsman Alex, of Maiden Castle Road, is set to join the fleet flagship HMS Ark Royal this August.
