Louise, my wife recently gave birth to twin girls. They were born at 35 weeks by caesarean section in the maternity unit at Dorset County Hospital. I am writing to express our admiration for the dedication, professionalism and good humour of the staff in every department.
As the girls were premature they were immediately taken to the Special Care Baby Unit. I was fortunate to have been able to visit Charlotte and Louise and I was moved by the efficiency, care and warmth of the team, this after similar attention in the Maternity Unit.
I was further knocked out' when presented with a photograph of the girls' minutes after their arrival.' Louise was comforted to see these photos, as she was unable to be with the girls at that stage.
Louise was subsequently moved into a family room in the SCBU and during the three weeks she has been there she has learnt an incredible amount from the staff. They are always considerate, courteous, and totally professional. Nothing is too much trouble at any time of the day or night.
All too often we read of individual horror' stories. This is not a fair reflection of the thousands of hard working, honest people who work in the NHS.
Our experiences at DCH maternity and Special Care Baby Unit are clearly shared by many other parents judging by the number of thank you cards. Both Louise and I are so grateful to the staff. They deserve recognition.
