STAFF and pupils at St John's Primary School in Weymouth are celebrating after being praised in two reports.

The school in Coombe Avenue received reports from the Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools and Ofsted.

The Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools report described St John's as "a good school with outstanding features".

It praised St John's for its "outstanding Christian ethos where love and support for others are clearly demonstrated".

It also said that headteacher Diana Mason "leads by example and enjoys the confidence and support of governors, parents and pupils".

The report went on to say that "the school is outstanding at meeting the needs of all learners". It added: "The vibrant displays around the school help to create a positive and stimulating environment reinforcing the Christian ethos, collective worship and RE."

Inspectors for Ofsted were also positive in their report about St John's which they described as "a satisfactory school which gives good pastoral care, ensuring that pupils' personal development is good".

They made special mention of the reception class. Inspectors said: "It is now a strength of the school providing a good quality learning environment in which children are thriving. All areas of learning are well catered for in the spacious, well equipped and organised classroom."

The inspectors added that pupils enjoyed their time there, their behaviour was good and they were active, ate sensibly and stayed safe.

They said parents were happy with the school and gave special mention to the contribution of Mrs Mason who they said was a "calm, caring, very approachable headteacher" who had shown "clear vision and great sensitivity".

Mrs Mason said: "I am very proud of all the staff who have worked very hard all year. I feel the reports confirm our own feelings that we have a very special school."
