TO see the environment at its Maytime best, why not join in the Portland Coast and Countryside Project in events arranged by Ranger Lyn Cooch?
Besides the pleasure of taking part, there is the bonus of helping conservation such as on Friday, May 23, when volunteers are needed to join in practical tasks in the Local Nature Reserve from 10.30am to 2.30pm.
Meet at the eastern end of New Ground car park where all equipment will be provided.
On Saturday, May 24, you can see wildlife on your doorstep' on a guided walk around the Verne Local Nature Reserve with Brian Edwards from Dorset Environmental Records Centre, looking at what's in bloom and much more.
This will also be a chance to learn more about recording wildlife at a local level so, to join in this two-hour stroll, meet in New Ground car park at the eastern end at 11am.
On Saturday, May 31, join Portland Wildlife Watch Group to see Hidden Ledges' followed by Botany Bingo'.
This is a chance to see the secret lives of guillemots and razorbills and then to play Botany Bingo on the Common.
This is especially suitable for families and children aged six to 12 years. Those under eight must be accompanied by an adult. To join in this event, which will last from 10am to noon, meet at Portland Bill tourist information centre.
