May I just comment on the article Dog impaled on fence', (Echo, May 7)?
(a) Why was said dog not on a lead - the Scout hut is, as far as I am aware, on a public road - obviously as a "breeder" Ms. Bugler would be aware of the laws surrounding this.
(b) Why was the owner happy to let said dog through the fence which is obviously there for a purpose ie., to prevent dogs from fouling the grass and/or barking at children?
This sounds to me like a fairly thin attempt to recoup self inflicted vets fees from the Scouting organisation who, as was pointed out already, are run on a completely voluntary basis.
Short answer: Keep it on a lead and/or under control.
