Cerne Abbas

  • AS part of the annual spring clean campaign on Friday, April 18, children from Cerne Abbas First School joined Cllr Handley and the clerk form Cerne Valley Parish Council on a litter pick around the school's playing fields, the riverside walk and around Kettle Bridge car park.

All the children were very enthusiastic, despite the rain.

Litter is one of my pet hates so let's hope that a generation of litter-aware children is growing up in our village!

  • COMMUNITY support officer WPC Jackie Allen will once again visit Abbots Tea Rooms, ready to answer your questions.

Pop into Abbots on Thursday, May 15 between 10.30am and 11.30am for a chance to have a chat with her.

Buckland Newton

  • A LECTURE has been organised through one of the Lydden walkers and the village is fortunate to welcome Geoffrey Poole to Buckland Newton village hall on Saturday, May 31.

Geoffrey Poole is a geomorphologist and will explain the present scenery and land formation of Dorset and what formed it thousands of years ago.

The talk will commence at 12:30pm and will last approximately 60 - 90 minutes with plenty of slides.

Geoffrey is an expert on the subject and a former lecturer at Bristol University and has studied the formation of Chesil Beach and the Blackmore Vale for over 40 years as well as being a historian of Dorset.

His lecture is open to anyone and bound to be extremely popular so make a note in your diaries now.

The lecture itself is free of charge but a charity collection box for the Dorset Kidney Fund will be available for donations.

The technique is based on taking multiple exposures of the same scene and mixing them electronically into one picture.

The first picture is outside the church.

The second picture is an interactive panorama, enabling you to stand in the middle of the church and turn on the spot to see right round (360 degrees) and also to zoom in and out.
