The big day has arrived!
The Dorset County Show is back at the the Dorchester Showground at Cokers Frome today and tomorrow after a two-year break.
Organisers are anticipating more than 60,000 visitors across the show weekend.
Today is expected to be dry and cloudy with some sunny spells although there's a chance there could be some outbreaks of rain. More rain is expected tomorrow.
Dorset County Show showcases excellence in agriculture and a wide spectrum of rural life. This includes supporting local artisans, farmers and producers.
The show includes a full programme of events and attractions including the main ring events, 6,000 exhibits and trade stands which include Shopping at The Avenue, and local artisan food and drink.
All of the usual attractions and sections will be back for everyone to enjoy - livestock, horses, show jumping, horticulture, blacksmiths, homecraft, rabbits, poultry, bees & honey, and much more.
Nicki Ralph, Chair of organisers the Dorchester Agricultural Society, said: “As the leading agricultural show in Dorset, it is important to us to deliver a memorable County Show. So much goes on behind the scenes to produce the event which requires the hard work of over 300 volunteers. We want to thank the community from far and wide for their continued support."
She added: “It is a joy to see the showground full once again after two years away, and we’re proud to hold a show that our visitors have known and loved for more than 180 years. We’re looking forward to hosting another jam-packed day of events and attractions for all the family and our farming community.”
New this year is the Fabulous Food & Farming Quiz Trail which provides educational information on the important interaction between farming, the environment and community in our everyday lives, allowing children to learn while they have fun exploring the showground.
In the main ring there will be the show’s first Big Bale Challenge – pushing a large bale around a tricky obstacle course.
The showground is about a mile from the town centre and is signposted from the Dorchester bypass - follow the yellow signs.
For those on foot, the site is accessible from both Greys Bridge (at the bottom on High West Street) and Blue Bridge (at the bottom of the Grove) footpaths.
Tickets are £23 per person with children under 16 going free.
