A BEACHFRONT cocktail bar has created a sunscreen station for visitors to Weymouth.
The Nook Cocktail Club on the Esplanade has set up a free sunscreen station outside the building for members of the public to use throughout the summer – not just customers of The Nook.
The idea was inspired by the sanitiser dispensers that appeared throughout the pandemic and to keep everyone safe as they wanted to extend a community message of care.
Gareth Burton, owner of The Nook said: “We’re so close to the beach and whilst we try and provide some much-needed shade over our outdoor seats, we also developed a really strong passing take away trade over the course of the pandemic, and we just thought if you’re going to take your cocktail to the beach for a nice relaxing sunbathe or catch up with friends why not top up your sunscreen whilst you wait?
“We have been so supported by the local community - it was the power of our community during lockdown which kept our business going.”
The sunscreen station will be available for passers-by to use every day until the end of September.
Mr Burton said: “Whether you’re enjoying a cocktail on our terrace, ordering a takeaway picnic drink, or even just passing by as you go about your day, we want to look after you.
“We all have to stay safe in the sun, especially with the increasingly hot summers and it’s one of those things you might forget to pack when you go for a spontaneous drink or outing.”
