ECHO reporter Adam Summers, his father John and brother Jonathan will be taking to the streets of London on April 13 to raise money for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

The Weymouth trio will be running the event in memory of Teresa Summers and Shirley Gomm, who both died of cancer last year.

The Summers family are hoping to raise in excess of £3,600 and they have already made a big dent in their target.

Adam said: "The Weldmar Hospicecare Trust is a fantastic charity that offers amazing support to people who have cancer or other progressive conditions that require specialist help.

"The support it gave us throughout the painful experience of my mother Teresa's death last year was superb and as a family we would like to thank them by raising as much money as we can. My dad has always wanted to run the London Marathon so it seemed like the ideal challenge to undertake and I am happy to report that our training and fundraising are both going well."

With the help of relations and friends, the trio will be staging a cheese and wine evening at Willowbed Hall in Chickerell tomorrow night. The tickets for the event are already sold out and it will include a raffle and a silent auction.

Adam added: "A lot of hard work has gone into putting on the event and I am sure it is going to be a great night. The donations we have received have been overwhelming and I would like to thank everyone for their continued support."

The items being auctioned include signed footballs from Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth and Weymouth, a Wessex Cricket School training shirt signed by Somerset's 2007 squad, and a signed cricket bat from England's 1999-2000 tour of South Africa. A brand-new red Johnson electric guitar can also be bid for.

Adam said: "The items up for auction are fantastic. All the football memorabilia has been signed from players who have been at the respective clubs this season and the shirt signed by Somerset includes the signatures of Andrew Caddick and Justin Langer.

"The bat is also very unique as it has been signed by the likes of Nasser Hussain, Michael Vaughan, Andrew Flintoff, Phil Tufnell and Darren Gough."
