A multi-emergency response was required after a pile of clothes was discovered on a beach.
Wyke Coastguard, Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team and Weymouth Beach Team were called shortly before 1am this morning (August 13) to Weymouth beach where, along with the pile of clothes, was a mobile phone.
The situation was soon discovered to not be as worrying as first thought when coastguards called the last number on the phone and located the owners in a local pub.
Why the clothes were on the beach is yet to be discovered.
A spokesperson for Wyke Coastguard said: “The team were tasked at 0044 along with Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team to a pile of clothes on Weymouth Beach.
“For emergencies on the coast dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
