A festival raising money for charity has had its 'best year yet' according to organisers.
DUCKFEST was held on August 5 and 6 at Hintock Farm in Charminster near Dorchester. Now in its fifth year, the festival has gone a long way from hosting just over 350 people to a crowd of more than 1,600.
The festival is run entirely by volunteers from the The Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust who aim to raise awareness of cancer, specifically bowel cancer, in Dorset's young people.
On the final day cocktails sold out, beer almost followed, and organisers are hopeful to have raised more money than ever, especially since this is the first since the original in 2017 that it hasn't rained.
Becky Howorth is a trustee of the charity, she said: "Oh my goodness me, we are just overwhelmed with how well it went, a great success in raising awareness and raising funds.
"Our Friday night headliners NUMB were absolutely fantastic as were the Saturday night headliner The Killaz UK. Throughout the day all of our bands were amazing.
"We aim to raise awareness of bowel cancer and bowel cancer symptoms in young people, we want to get young people to have the confidence to report any problems to their doctors because we know this cancer can be caught early."
The last DUCKFEST in 2021 raised about £10,000, with slightly less than 1,000 people attending because of the rain. Which is why organisers are so pleased with this year's turn out and hopeful about the results of their fundraising efforts. A final sum will be calculated over the next few weeks.
Becky's husband Sam Howorth, also a trustee of the charity, said: "It was an absolutely amazing year, best one ever.
"We chose to run the festival because a good friend of ours suffered from bowel cancer. We threw it together back in 2017 and it was very successful. This is actually the first since the original that it hasn't rained.
"Personally I am a big fan of That Britpop Band, they are awesome. They did a promotion for us a few years ago, a cover of 'Parklife' by Blur, but changed it to Ducklife, which they now play every year for us.
"Huge thank you to everyone who has helped make this year so incredible, all the volunteers, trustees, helpers, everyone who turned up and of course the bands."
