A NEW bus improvements survey has been launched by Dorset Council.
The local authority is launching the public consultation with hopes to receive future funding for a Bus Service Improvement Plan.
The first round of funding was announced in April with Dorset Council unsuccessful in its bid whilst neighbouring, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council received nearly £9million.
Dorset Council submitted “ambitious proposals” as part of the national Bus Back Better strategy for England but is refreshing its proposals in anticipation of the next round.
As a result the council has launched a survey in order to get further input from the public on their priorities for better bus services.
The local authority will also be gathering the views of local businesses, town and parish councillors, transport action groups, and tourism and health service providers.
Cllr Ray Bryan, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Highways, Travel and Environment, said: “Despite the lack of funding from the BSIP bid, Dorset Council will continue to seek ways to improve transport in Dorset.
“This survey will help Dorset Council to refresh the current BSIP with continuing input from stakeholders contributing to plans for the future.”
Cllr. Noc Lacey-Clarke, The Cabinet Lead for Environment, Travel and Harbours, said: “We are keen to understand peoples’ priorities for transport services in Dorset and I would encourage everyone to fill in this survey so that Dorset can develop a high quality transport network."
The announcement comes amid concern for the future of two bus routes: Buses of Somerset has announced its intention to withdraw the 6 from Bridport to Yeovil as of October 31 whilst the Stagecoach 9A between Lyme Regis and Seaton has been scrapped.
Seaton-based Axe Valley Mini Travel has announced it will be running a more limited service between the two towns whilst contracts will be put out to tender at a later date for the Bridport to Yeovil route.
The survey can be completed online whilst printed copies are available from Dorset Council Customer Access Points or you can contact Dorset Council Customer Services on 01305 221000 or by emailing customerservices@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk.
The deadline is September 11.
