JULIE Storey has made history by becoming the first female president of Weymouth & Portland Lions.

Incoming president Julie was also the first female Lion in the club, which supports good causes.

Members of Weymouth & Portland Lions celebrated the presidential and vice-presidential handover at the Chatsworth Hotel on Weymouth Esplanade. Lion Ryan Hope has become the new vice-president.

Members and invited guests tucked into a menu of steak and lobster before the formal part of the evening got under way.

Lion Kevin Brookes was presented with a glass plaque from the club as a thank you for his year as club president.

He said: "Although Covid-19 was officially over, during my year as president, the club has gone through a period of major change because of the pandemic. We left the Rembrandt Hotel, home to the Lions Club for many years, and therefore needed to find secure locations for regular monthly business meetings, social events, plus a suitable venue for dinner meetings.”

The club would like to thank Moonfleet Bowls Club for allowing them to hold monthly business meetings in the clubhouse, and also the Chatsworth Hotel for playing host to future dinner meetings.
