A walk full of history around the countryside will be taking place next week.
The Roman Road Summer Walk is hosted by the Dorset Council’s Senior Archaeologist and a Thorncombe Wood Ranger and goes along the Schedule Ancient Monument which traverses the Thorncombe Woods reserve.
A £5 donation towards the management of Thorncombe Wood is suggested to those attending.
A spokesperson said: “This informative guided walk will also take you to the Bronze Age Tumuli, Rainbarrows and neighbouring Duddle Heath as featured in Hardy’s work.
The event takes place on Thursday, July 21.
Thomas Hardy was an author and poet born in 1840 near Dorchester, and who built his home at Max Gate. Much of his writing, including his semi-fictional Wessex, were inspired by the landscape surrounding Dorchester.
