A FIRST edition of a novel written by Jane Austen has sold at auction in Dorchester.
Three volumes of the novel Mansfield Park has sold at Duke's Auctioneers in Dorchester for £27,500 with inclusion of fees.
The first edition of the book, which was Jane Austen's third novel, sold at Duke's Book auction on June 17.
Mansfield Park was first published in 1814 by Thomas Egerton.
The novel tells the story of Fanny Price, starting when her overburdened family sends her at the age of ten to live in the household of her wealthy aunt and uncle and following her development into early adulthood.
The volumes are made with marbled boards, spines decorated in gilt with red and green Moroccan spine labels.
The book was estimated to sell at auction for £8,000.
