Students and staff at the Sir John Colfox Academy were in full force to celebrate pride month.
All involved were encouraged to wear a ‘splash of colour’ to support Pride, rainbow flags were flown and students ran a stall to raise money and awareness.
Students raised £83 for the Space Youth Project, which supports and empowers young people who are or may be LGBT+.
One Year 9 student, who helped with the celebration, said: “Everyone had fun, but there was an important message about empowering everyone to have positive self-esteem and to strengthen a sense of community. It was great to see so many teachers and students buying Pride flags to support the Space Youth Project.”
Adam Shelley, Headteacher of the Sir John Colfox Academy, said: “Colfox is proud to celebrate Pride. It was brilliant to see everyone coming together to celebrate equality, diversity and we had a lot of fun.”
Pride is about acceptance, equality, celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ people, education in LGBTQ+ history and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.
