Celebrating their special anniversary, current owner Fulvio Figliolini - also known as 'Figgy' and the third generation of his family to run the store - says the recipe for success is that the store 'isn't just another ice cream shop'.
Fulvio said: “I try to make the best ice cream I can, and people seem to be happy with it.
“It has never been a chore or a job – because running the shop just makes me happy.
“We have been open a long time and have a good reputation in the area for caring, we aren’t just another ice cream shop.
Fulvio’s grandparents first came to the UK whilst making their way to America but decided to settle down in Weymouth instead.
Rossi's is open for the eight months over summer and often sees different generations of customers relishing in what it has to offer, with grandparents who remember visiting as children bringing their grandchildren for a cold treat.
It usually closes during the winter, but queues are regularly seen outside the shop when it reopens for the season, especially on hot summer days.
Fulvio and his team make all their ice creams in-house using the same recipe that they used in 1937 using no artificial flavouring and as organic as possible, with their natural ice cream being their most popular item.
In fact, the sign and most of the interior haven’t changed since they first opened.
The iconic store even featured in the Weymouth version of Monopoly released in 2012.
Fulvio added: “We take pride in our traditional ice cream and presentation.”
“We want to be a place people can come into to relax and enjoy the ambience.”
“Thank you to all the customers over the years for your loyalty, and we look forward seeing you all again.”
Although he has no plans to retire anytime soon, Fulvio’s daughter Aimee is already in line to take over the store as the fourth generation.
