Boris Johnson has lost the support of one of Dorset's Conservative MPs.
Chris Loder has said he has "personally lost confidence" in the Prime Minister and would "support" action from the 1922 Committee that would remove Boris Johnson from office.
The MP for West Dorset broke his silence this morning and said it was "with great sadness" that he thought Boris Johnson should resign.
Writing in his Echo column, Mr Loder said he had reached his decision on the basis of an erosion of "trust and confidence" in the Prime Minister.
He said: "This is about trust and confidence and when that is eroded, it is incredibly difficult to get it back.
"I know many feel the same way, not only people of west Dorset but also my colleagues in Westminster.
"It is my role to hold the government to account on behalf of the people in West Dorset which is what I am doing."
His comments came in the wake of Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid's high-profile resignations last night. Several more ministers have resigned in the following hours.
In his column, Mr Loder also revealed he had voted against Boris Johnson in the vote of no confidence that took place last month.
He said: "I opposed the Prime Minister in the backbench vote at the beginning of June, at the very least to send a shot across the bows, but I am now very clear, not just from constituents expressing their thoughts on the matter, but from what I see in person"
Speaking on the Today programme, Chris Loder said he found it "unacceptable" that it took a civil servant "to correct the record after five days" following allegations of sexual misconduct surrounding the MP Chris Pincher.
Mr Loder added that he was "glad to see" Mr Sunak and Mr Javid had "acted accordingly" by resigning from Government.
