A RESCUE mission was underway to save a ‘camouflaged’ dog after it fell from cliffs near Lulworth.
Roxy, a Chinese Blue Shar Pei, fell from the cliffs at Dungy Head on the afternoon of Sunday June 26.
Due to her colour she was camouflaged against the rocks and hard to spot.
Crews from Lulworth and Wyke had to work quickly against a rising tide and scramble over rough terrain to get her back to her worried owners.
A spokesperson for Lulworth Coastguard said: “Lulworth & Wyke Coastguard Rescue Teams were jointly tasked at 14:36 this afternoon to a dog that had fallen from cliffs at Dungy Head. Roxy, a Chinese Blue Shar Pei was found at the base of the cliff not far from where she had fallen, non the worse for her ordeal.
“Team members had to walk & carry Roxy against a rising tide & over rough terrain to St Oswalds Bay to link up with the coastal path back to Lulworth where she was reunited with her very relieved & grateful owners.
“Safety advice was given to the owners & we urge members of the public to keep their dogs on a firm leash at all times when walking coastal pathways, especially where the route runs close to the cliff edge.”
A spokesperson for Wyke Coastguard said: “Tasked to assist our colleagues at Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team after a dog was reported to have fallen out of sight on cliffs West of Lulworth Cove.
“Efforts were made to find the wearabouts of Roxy, after some time she was found, camouflaged amongst the rocks unharmed. She was walked back up the path to be reunited with her thankful owners.”
