A TRAIL taking visitors across Portland during an annual celebration of art has been hailed a great success.

Nine artists across the isle could be reached on the trail during Dorset Art Weeks 2022 and as a result there was an increase in visitors touring arty venues during the fortnight.

Participants were invited to collect stamps from six venues on a postcard to enter a prize draw.

The winner was Portland resident Alex Hill, who chose to spend her £90 voucher on a painting by Jane Wraight.

Jane, an artist at studio complex ArtSpace82 in Fortuneswell, said: “I'm inspired by the Portland landscape and in particular the amazing cloudscapes we have here.

"This particular painting is called 'Beautiful Island'. As a newbie, I really enjoyed Dorset Art Weeks and loved meeting and chatting with all the visitors.”

Caro Lester, designer of the Portland Trail postcard, said: “The Portland Trail 2022 was initiated and organised by Emma Bradley, a glass artist based at ArtSpace82.

"It really created a buzz, bringing people to the island who may not have ventured so far south during previous Dorset Art Weeks!

"It was good to be able to promote the fantastic range of attractions and places to eat and drink on Portland alongside the trail; we look forward to running the event again in 2024.”
