A pre-school has won a garden centre's green spaces project.
Charminster Preschool has been announced as the winner of Dobbies Galton Garden Centre's Helping Your Community Grow project.
Staff and youngsters at the pre-school in Charminster, near Dorchester, will receive advice, products and support from the Owermoigne-based garden centre to help their green space flourish.
Pre-school leader Rachel Shaw said: “We’re thrilled to have won Dobbies’ Helping Your Community Grow initiative and are looking forward to bringing our project to life.
“We’re really grateful for everyone’s support in getting us to this point and excited for what’s to come.”
Charminster Pre-school will use the support from the UK’s leading garden centre to help them add a growing area to the playground, where children will be taught about growing their own fruit and vegetables and how sustainable this practice is.
Dobbies CEO Graeme Jenkins said: “Helping Your Community Grow is a really popular initiative in Galton and we’re thrilled to be announcing our winning project, Charminster Pre-school, who are looking to make a difference to the local area.
“It’s been great to see an enhanced importance on sustainability and environmentally friendly practices this year, and we’re excited to see where our support takes them.”
The scheme runs nationwide at the majority of Dobbies' 74 stores and received more than 35,000 votes.
There will be future opportunities available for community groups looking to brighten up their local areas and they are invited to contact their local Dobbies store for details of the community initiatives available.
