WEYMOUTH'S first Fayre in the Square in three years was back in full swing.

Crowds poured onto the harbour and into Hope Square as the end-of-spring two-day extravaganza returned to the streets of Weymouth for the first time since 2019.

The event, which was held on Saturday and Sunday, is organised by the Rotary Club of Weymouth and featured a variety of stalls lining Trinity Road alongside entertainment - which provided an opportunity for local businesses and singers to showcase themselves, according to club president-elect David Langridge.

He said: "It's an event aimed at families.

"We've been running the event since 2014 and it gets better each year.

"This was the first event back on the streets of Weymouth since 2019. We held a virtual event in 2020, but it's not the same - so it's good to be back."

Fayre in the Square saw a host of eateries from across Dorset including Weymouth-based Thai-themed A-Yum Yum as well as Bournemouth-based Mimi's African Restaurant and Bar.

Mr Langridge added: "Holding the event annually is a great way of showcasing businesses within the area, which take up a stall with us."

A range of bands, singers and dancers also took to the stage in Hope Square.

"Another main aim of the event is to raise as much cash as possible, which will be donated to community groups and causes from across the area, said Mr Langridge.

Mr Langridge said donations raised by these types of events have benefitted a range of groups - including Weymouth charity MV Freedom, which provides access to sea trips for people with disability.

He added: "In the past, we've also seen huge donations given to foodbanks. Fundraising for those types of institutions may be vital going forward due to the cost of living rising.

"I would like to thank residents, the community and Dorset Council for the patience shown while we host the Fayre in the Square. Obviously, roads were closed to host it, so thank you to them."
