A DORSET campsite has been named among the best in the south west as the region takes the top spot for camping holidays in the UK.
Booking platform Pitchup.com created the south west's top campsite list which was based on customer reviews, with more than two million British holidaymakers booking a stay through the platform in the last year.
Portesham Dairy Farm Campsite just outside of Weymouth has been named the second best campsite in the south west according to reviews.

In first place was Somerset's Wimbleball Holidays which is close to Wimbleball Lake, just 50m away, where a range of watersports are on offer including kayaking, canoeing, rowing, sailing and windsurfing.
Owl Valley Glamping in Devon, Porthtowan campsite in Cornwall and Park Farm in Wiltshire were all named in the top five.
Based on customer reviews rating each site for aspects like location, value for money, quality of accommodation, activities and cleanliness, guests awarded almost two thirds of all UK sites listed on the platform in 2021 an overall score of eight out of 10 and above.

Chalk Meadow, Dorchester - 9.9/10
Chalk Meadow is a secluded grass paddock site on the outskirts of the sleepy Dorset village of Broadmayne.
Facilities are minimal (just loos and hot showers) and there’s no electricity.
£25 per night, four people. -
Hyde Camping, Bere Regis - 9.9/10
Hyde Camping is a spacious Dorset site in a 25-acre hay and wildflower meadow that’s been unsprayed for more than 20 years.
Pitches here are large, well-drained and flat, with acres of land but only small numbers of guests on site at any one time.

Tin Barn, East Chelborough - 9.9/10
Tin Barn is set in a nine-acre grazing field close to public rights of wa.
Amenities on site can be found in the tack room by the stables, where there's a shower, fridge, freezer, double sink, washing machine and dryer. At the top of the field there's also a portaloo.
£20 per night, four people. -
Trigorn Farm, Wareham - 9.9/10
Set in a rural field near Wareham with views of Trigon Manor house and arable fields to the left and beyond, this is a great site for families: hidden away from main roads and traffic, with stacks of space for running around and big scope for mini nature hunters to roam around and spot deer, buzzards and woodpeckers.
£17 per night, two people. - Pilsdon View Camping, Bridport - 9.9/10
Kids can roam fairly freely around this site, playing with the garden toys and tyre swing or setting up their own games; don’t worry about them getting mucky, as there are gas-powered showers to take care of clean-up time.
Toilets, a fresh water supply and a washing-up area are also in place close to the pitches field.
£18 per night, two people.
