THREE daredevils have raised almost £1,700 for Young Lives vs Cancer after braving a 10,000ft skydive.

Amy Ellis and sisters Kirsty and Katy Clark, from Blandford, took to the skies after being inspired by Amy’s nephew Freddy who is supported by the charity.

They each strapped onto an instructor before flying through the skies.

Amy said she was ‘terrified’ at the thought of the challenge but explained more about why she decided to face her fears.

She said: “My 12 year old nephew Freddy is currently being treated for acute myeloid leukaemia. So far, he has amazed his family, friends, community and football club with his strength, determination and good heart. We really want to show Freddy our support, so my friend Katy and I decided to take on a skydive.”

“We were absolutely terrified at the thought of jumping out of a plane at 10,000 feet high. However, as Freddy is being so brave, we wanted to take on a challenge that took us out of our comfort zone.

"It was the most incredible experience, we both found it amazing and really want to jump out of that plane again. We are so pleased that we have raised £1,685 to support our chosen charity, Young Lives vs Cancer and we would like to thank everyone who has kindly sponsored us.”

Katy described the experience as ‘incredible’ and said: “I’m so proud of how much we’ve raised and hopefully it will help towards other people. I only met Freddy for the first time recently and he is the bravest kid I’ve ever met and so lovely: even wanting to skydive when he is old enough now.”

Liz Blunt, Dorset Senior Fundraising Engagement Manager for Young Lives vs Cancer said:

“We are so grateful to them for signing up to the skydive for Young Lives vs Cancer. As a charity we don’t receive any government funding and can only provide the vital support we do to families like Freddy’s thanks to our supporters.

"The £1,685 that was raised could pay for almost 17 registration grants that we offer families to help with the extra costs that cancer incurs."
