A TEACHER from Bridport has produced a book which educates children about plastic pollution and now wants to raise funds to reach more youngsters.
Laura Swift hopes to put copies of her book, Precious Plastics, complete with lesson plans and supporting resources, into classrooms across the country as well as providing free workshops.
The 39-year-old has also been working in collaboration with Symondsbury Primary School on an initiative to raise awareness and create lasting change with other primary schools, starting in Bridport before moving further afield.
Ms Swift said: “What better way than to educate and inspire today's young people to stand up, use the power in their voices, and make change.

“In order to inspire change, we must first educate and create understanding.
“Local businesses and members of our community really should want to be behind this and be part of this initiative, to be able to proudly say we are doing what we can and we are teaching the future generations to live differently.”
The author’s book is ‘a heart-warming story that young readers will engage with’ and educates them ‘on the issue of plastic pollution in our oceans and encourages them to make the changes to protect our planet, encouraging our children and future generations to be change–makers’.

Ms Swift continued: “I have always been passionate about our oceans and planet and I knew I wanted to do more - to deliver this message to all young people without them having to buy a copy of the book.
“Many schools are unable to implement workshops and learning like this due to time, planning and budget constraints.
“By providing this at no cost we will remove those pressures and enable every school to be a part.”
Ms Swift wants to encourage local businesses to contribute to the campaign who will be recognised by appearing in the resources provided, which would be produced in collaboration with Symondsbury School and launched at an event called 'WE Day' which is being hosted in June.
Members of the public who donate to the cause will receive a free copy of the book, donations can be made via https://gofund.me/8304c9cd
