West Bay Discovery Centre is inviting people to take a step back into the Jurassic era.
Dr Robert Chandler, an expert on the middle Jurassic period, will be leading a guided walk that will explore the shoreline near Burton Bradstock on May 19.
The walk will discover the creatures of the area’s Jurassic age and outline of what the rock strata and fossils of around 170 million years ago can tell us about a world now long-gone.
The walk, which is part of the Discovery Centre’s exhibition programme, 'Buried in Time' starts at 2pm and will last around two hours.
It is suitable for anyone who is comfortable with walking over uneven terrain, but not for younger children (and no dogs).
Booking in advance is required via the Discovery Centre’s website or Facebook page and a minimum donation of £5 per person is sought.
Dr Chandler is one of the fossil experts currently featured in the centre’s 'Buried in Time' exhibition.
An internationally-recognised expert he advises the Natural History Museum and has a lifelong interest in the fossils of the West Dorset area.
The exhibition runs until the end of October in the Centre, which is open 11am-4pm Tuesday to Sunday. It does not charge admission but welcomes donations from visitors to help meet its running costs. Find out more on the Discovery Centre, What’s On page www.westbaydiscoverycentre.org.uk.
