DASHCAM footage captured the moment an object believed to be a meteorite was seen hurtling across the night sky just off the coast of Portland.
The footage, captured by Christine Wright, shows a faint blue and white-coloured object - along with a tail of dust - shooting downwards across the night sky.
Ms Wright was driving south along Avalanche Road, just after Reap Lane, around 9.40pm last night (Saturday, April 16).
She has zoomed in and slowed down the footage to allow a closer look at the object.
Ms Wright said: "My daughter Vicky was driving at the time and earlier on we saw a bright red full moon so was thinking does that mean anything.
"Then on our way home, we saw the bright flash suddenly appear in the sky. At first I thought it was shooting star, but then realised it was to big and round, when it started to come down I was worried it would land on a house roof but saw it must have gone into the sea.
"I have never seen anything like it before. I was so lucky it was captured on my dashcam, I doubt I will see something like it again. The best bit was seeing the tail - as I've only ever seen something like that on television."
