A MAN has been treated at hospital for facial injuries after being 'kicked and stamped on' by a 'group of young people'.
It is reported he had confronted them about smashing bottles and throwing stones in Poundbury.
Officers investigating the assault in Dorchester are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Dorset Police received a report at 8.22pm on Thursday March 17 relating to a group of around ten young people involved in anti-social behaviour in the area of Pummery Square in Poundbury.
It was reported that they were smashing bottles and throwing stones at doors.
A further report was received that a man aged in his 20s had confronted the group in St John Way and had been assaulted.
A police spokesman said: "He was kicked whilst on the ground and stamped on before the group made off from the scene.
"The victim suffered facial injuries as a result of the assault that required hospital treatment."
Police Constable Maddie Barber, of Dorchester police, said: “This was a nasty assault and we are carrying out a number of enquiries to identify those involved.
“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to please come forward if they have not already spoken to police.
“I would also like to hear from anyone in the area who may have captured anything relevant on dashcam or home CCTV footage.”
