CONSTRUCTION works are underway at a new development for 140-homes near Dorchester.
Outline planning permission was granted in August 2018 for the housing development just off Frome Valley Road in Crossways.
Three and a half years later the project is well underway with phase one of the plans.
The main structures of several homes have been erected at the site, which will provide 140 homes on the 11-hectare development.
Recently Crossways Parish Council was granted permission to name nine new roads at the site after members of the community who have worked for the good of the village.
Original plans stated the housing project would include 35% affordable homes, alongside a children’s play area and a nature-friendly ‘green spaces’.
Concerns from residents about being ‘out of keeping’ with the area, being outside the village development boundary and highway safety were raised at the time with the planning committee.
The latter of which was addressed by a highways officer who said the increase in homes would be ‘insignificant’ for the road junction near the site's entrance.
