WINFRITH Drama Group's production of Panto at OK Corral started on Thursday evening with great gusto!

Tickets were sold out and the full houses enjoyed themselves immensely.

  • I know its Leap Year this year but there aren't 31 days in February so apologies to the Ladies Friendship group whose next meeting is at Winfrith Village Hall on Wednesday 13th February starting at 2.30pm and not on the 31st as shown in my last report.
  • Ideas are being sought by the Winfrith Playing field committee in order to raise funds for the Sports Pavilion running costs.

These run in the order of £8,000 per year just merely to exist. In addition there are major repair bills in the pipeline, so it would be a shame if we lose such a valuable resource from lack of support.

The committee recently organised a Christmas Bingo and a Barn dance and thanks go to those who did support these events, but only £200 profit was raised to go towards costs.

  • Don't forget to do your questionnaire for Winfrith and East Knighton Parish plan and put it in the splendid box made especially by Geoff Hann, which is in the shop.

  • The first Artsreach event of 2008 at Winfrith Village Hall has been described as a wild and exciting musical journey' with two superb musicians.

The Beacons are Eddy Jay, on accordion, guitar and voice; and Oli Wilson-Dickson on violin and voice.

Their musical repertoire covers mind-bending Macedonian dances, delicate Welsh airs, sizzling Gypsy serenades and storming Bluegrass and they have captivated audiences across the country. Reviewers have described their performance as so hot, sparks flew from the violin', and a brilliant set, beautifully interpreted and exquisitely presented'.

  • We have been contacted by a puppet company in Edinburgh who will be staying in Winfrith in March and plans are afoot to have them perform in Winfrith Village Hall, so that all the children in the amalgamated school will have an opportunity to see Beauty and the Beast.

  • West Lulworth's WI is planning a Jumble Sale in West Lulworth Village Hall on Saturday, February 16, so here's a chance to have an early spring clean and donate some of your surplus stuff.

  • The Lulworth Rangers thanked all those who turned up for the Beach clean last month, eager to help, despite the rain and the wind.

But conditions were too bad and the event reluctantly was cancelled due to the dangerous conditions.

They remind us that this type of weather makes one aware that the cove, cliffs and all the features that make our coastline so beautiful may not be around for ever.

Erosion takes its toll. They have fixed up a new fixed point photography project to monitor the erosion of the cliffs and this will give a visual account of the changes at Lulworth.

The rangers also remind us to take care when walking on the beaches as there is the danger of falling rocks.
