WEYMOUTH'S new Boots store have taken another step forward as the chemist chain prepares to move into the vacant former New Look store.
As reported Boots will be moving to a new home in the town centre, just metres away from its current dual-fronted premises at 81-82 St Mary Street and 22-24 St Thomas Street.
The retail and healthcare giant is expected to make the move into number 1-2 New Bond Street this summer.
New Look was forced to exit the branch last month after its former landlord ended the lease early. The women's fashion chain has since revealed plans to take over the former Monsoon branch, also in New Bond Street.
Now, plans for the new Boots store in the two-storey branch have taken a further step as a request has been submitted to Dorset Council asking for permission for new shop front signs and window display.
An application for consent to display advertisements at the branch has been submitted along with a separate application for listed building consent, to make alterations to the exterior of the Grade II listed building.
An agent for Boots has given details of the new signs, including seven aluminium panels with illuminated lettering, logos and the green chemist cross on a white background.
The healthcare and retail brand is also seeing permission to install two illuminated double-sided projecting/ hanging signs. On one side will be white text on a blue background, with a green cross on a white background on the reverse.
Inside the shop windows they plan to put up white frosted vinyl signage with cobalt blue letters.
Boots has requested consent to display the signage at the branch from May 3 this year until May 3 2027.
The manager of Boots in Weymouth, Darren Steel, previously told the Echo a provisional date towards the end of June had been pencilled in for the move.
He said the two stores are of a similar size, and that the new store will offer a similar range of services and product ranges to the current shop.
