A WOMAN from Dorset is offering up her spare bedroom for a Ukrainian refugee to live in after being struck by the ‘horrific’ scenes from the country following Russian invasion and hopes to encourage others.

Caroline Taylor, from Yetminster, says she wants to do her bit to help but has so far found the process 'difficult' because she says there is little information out there.

In a bid to help other people she has set up a Facebook page, called Dorset #HomesForUkraine, where people can track her process to get an understanding of how it all works.

“I have been keeping up with the news and I thought what’s going on in Ukraine is just horrific,” said Ms Taylor, 51.

“I have got a 26-year-old daughter who lives away and I’d love to think if something would happen where she is she would have a roof over her head.

“We all need to try to help if we can, if we have the space and ability to do so."

Ms Taylor, a mature student at Yeovil College, is offering up the spare room in her house for a refugee to live in alongside her, her two dogs and her cat.

So far, she says she has found the process ‘difficult’ but hopes her experience can encourage others.

Ms Taylor added: “I’ve started a group on Facebook because I am trying to find out as much as I can about the process.

“I am hoping it all becomes clearer. I want to give as much information as I can to encourage other people to do it.”

The Dorset resident says it is an easier process to get a Ukrainian refugee a visa if it is someone they know and so has called on people in Dorset to see if they know someone she can sponsor.

She added: “If anyone knows someone who I can sponsor to get a visa please get in touch so we can get the ball rolling correctly as its a lot quicker to do it that way."

Those who may know of someone Ms Taylor can sponsor are urged to contact her via the Dorset #HomesForUkraine Facebook group.
